Math Festivals

Students and adults of all ages are often scared to make mistakes. This mindset often limits ability to think outside the box and problem-solve creatively. Daniel Kline, the Executive Director of Julia Robinson Math Festival, warns that due to the narrow and repetitive ways math is taught in the classroom, most children label themselves as not “math people” by the end of elementary school. Thankfully, Math Festivals tackle these issues by forming a friendly environment that incorporates hands-on-learning, student choice, and collaboration.

Project Count On Us continues to host Math Festivals at schools and venues in Orange County in hope of inspiring more people to love math.

Boys and Girls Club of Central Florida

Our initiative hosts weekly math "gaming" sessions at a Boys and Girls Club center in our community. We experiment with different arithmetic and logic activities, such as Prime Climb, SET, Chocolate Fix, origami, and Albert's Insomnia.

Child-to-child interaction created a fun and motivating environment while encouraging the exploration of important math concepts.
